offensive punch for the Predators has been led by rookie Filip Forsberg, who is currently 6th in league scoring overall and running away with the freshman scoring title with 22 points (the next closest rookie has 13). He also leads the team with a +20 rating.

kid is SOOOO good. i remember being criticized during the spezza trade speculation for saying that spezza for him straight up would be a steal for ottawa.

also, picked him up off waivers for my fantasy team.........needless to say, i'm running away with my league.

That's crazy.
Spezza: age-declining one-trick pony with recurring back problems (despite being a nice guy).
Forsberg: 20 years old, with all the tools necessary to be a dominant force in the league for years to come. First Swede ever to be named MVP@World Juniors.

everyone knew he was gonna be a pretty good player......but i don't think ANYONE expected him to be as good as he's been this year.

he put up pretty good numbers in the SEL and AHL, but nothing that would indicate that he'd be a top 10 NHL scorer as a 20 year old. I'm sure a deal could have been made with spezza and forsberg as the center pieces.

still can't believe Mcphee traded him for Erat.

Cowen with his first goal and a multi point game tonight - I hope the good Sens show up tonight.

hard to call this game, Lehner should get his son his first win, Nashville coming off a huge win on the road and that usually means a let down the next game - Ottawa played them tight before, Zibby should be on fire.

I;m going to say Ottawa 3-2 - but who knows

In McPhee's defense, he traded an All World Goalie (Varlamov) to Col for the pick they used to draft Forsberg, then traded Forsberg for Erat, and then flipped Erat for a 4th rounder.

I do remember you pushing for a Spezza to Nasville deal last summer numerous times..

Let's not forget, B.Murray had a deal set in place with the Preds and Spezza snubbed the trade. Instead going to Dallas. wonder if he regrets that desision now that he looks at the western conf standings

Hey, if east conf GM's want to continue to trade elite prospects like Seguin & Forsberg to the west conf, I'm fine with that..

I don't expect to see Smith at C for very long. They need to make room and they need to showcase Smith where he plays best. He's the one guy with trade value that they don't need to hang onto.
Greening has no value, so they won't be able to move him.
I wouldn't be shocked to see a 3 for 2 deal to a western club struggling defensively.
Edmonton Trade: Smith + Condra + Gryba = Petry + ?
Dallas Trade: Smith + Condra + Gryba = Dillon + ?

Gryba has been good, but once Methot is back he'd be fighting to stay in the lineup as there will be a physical presence on each pair with Methot, Cowen & Boro.

Yes that means that we carry 8 D, but the reality is we don't have immediate depth at D in the AHL, so we need to hold on to them at the NHL. We do have that luxury at F (Pageau, Robinson, Dizzy, etc...), and can call them up and KNOW they can play at the NHL level.

So, hey, Ottawa. They are doing better than the Oilers and tickets are affordable here. I think I may have found my #2 team to cheer for.

i bet ryan wants a do over on that extension, and i don't blame him with the way maclean has handled him this year.

maclean is REALLY starting to piss me off.

it's the this and that, if it's not this it's that, and you have to work on the this to get that because otherwise the that isn't there because you haven't done this.

i'm SHOCKED it took this long to try.

maclean was a really good coach the first 2 years, but the way he's handled the roster last year, and the beginning of this year............i'm not convinced anymore. he seems completley oblivious to things that seem SO obvious to literally everyone else....like the fact that greening is a terrible hockey player, that ryan deserves more ice time than guys like neil and legwand, that weircioch is a good hockey player, etc, etc, etc, etc

my ideal lineup, with the forwards we have now:

mac - turris - ryan
hoff - zibby - stone
lazar - legwand - chiasson
michalek - smith - condra

neil (press box)
greening (bottom of the ocean)

Speculation down here was similar to the James Neal trade. With Hornquist being the main piece leaving the Predators. As you might expect, Spezza got a very nice welcome to Smashville with the Stars came in for their first appearance this season. Personally, I am glad Spezza chose Dallas.

Paul MacCann in his Nashville blog on tonight's game says something pretty interesting.

"The questions about the Dallas Stars are piling up. The universally declared winner of the offseason is two points out of the Western Conference basement, terrible at home and has the team’s excellent head coach Lindy Ruff scratching his head and calling it the “biggest test I’ve ever been through.”

Don't want to get into personalities. Rather, would like to focus on the success teams have when they learn to play defense first. The Leafs can score but they give up a ton of goals and their fan base is beginning to panic recognizing it is not a winning formula.

I think the Sens can do a deal. I think they should do a big deal. But, any deal should first need to meet the test of their needing to grow as a responsible defensive team. Great defense wins championships. Ryan O'Reilly would be at the top of my list of players rumored to be available.

i also like the return we got from dallas.

hornquist is obviously playing well...........but i attribute a TON of that to the "crosby factor". he wouldn't have had nearly that kind of production in ottawa.

sens got 3 young quality pieces back for spezza........better than an almost 28 year old hornqvist IMO
